Property overview

Clarks Woods is in the middle of the island. These woods were part of a parcel of land that belonged to Harriet and Frederick Clark. It was donated by the Clark Family in 2005 and consists of forest as well as wetland and provides important wildlife habitats.

Highlights of this preserve include:

·       A significant vernal pool which provides critical habitat for a variety of wildlife species. The pool contributes to a high quality of regional habitat diversity and is a unique feature on this PILP property. The pool and surrounding forest provide critical habitat for pool-breeding amphibian species, specifically wood frogs and spotted salamanders.

·       This area consists of early successional forest, red maple swamp and spruce northern hardwoods. The diversity of community types at Clarks Woods contributes to important habitat diversity.
